What are Essential Oils with Monoterpenes and how can they benefit your health?
We have all heard the term essential oils. But what are they made of? Most of you will glaze over if I start bringing up chemistry terms but I want to give you some basic information about the different classifications of essential oils and why each one has different therapeutic benefits from another one. Essential oil constituents are built on a framework of isoprene units. Isoprene units consist of carbon and hydrogen atoms. Most of the compounds in essential oils consist of two to four isoprene units. The simplest and most common class of terpenes found in essential oils is the monoterpene.

What you Might Not Know About Using Essential Oils Aromatically
If you want a safe, effective, and holistic way to improve mood, purify the air and improve your brain function, you need to start diffusing essential oils. Diffusing essential oils is the most cost effective and health conscious solution for your health. Diffusing doesn’t just make your house smell great, you reap the health benefits every time you breathe in the oils!
Because diffusion distributes essential oil molecules into the air so effectively, it is an excellent way to maximize the beneficial properties of essential oils. When essential oils are inhaled through the nose, tiny nerves send an immediate signal to the brain and go straight to work on the systems that moderate our minds and bodies. Inhalation can be the most direct delivery method of these incredibly nurturing components in essential oils, since the chemical messengers in the nasal cavity have direct access to the brain.
Why You Need to Diffuse Essential Oils Every Day
Purify Air
When diffused into the air, essential oils can help with:
- Destroying mold microorganism in the air.
- Filling the air with a fresh, aromatic scent
- Making chemicals non-toxic by fracturing their molecular structure
- Increasing atmospheric oxygen
- Increasing ozone and negative ions in the area, which helps inhibit bacterial growth

In a French study, 210 different microbes were colonized, and in 30 minutes of diffusing the air with essential oils, only four colonies were left! You can diffuse essential oils in the air by using a few drops – 10 to 15 – in a regular diffuser with some water.

A systematic review of research into inhaled essential oils effect on sleep, published in 2014 in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, reported the greatest number of findings for lavender. This plant’s essential oil was found to enhance the quality of sleep by itself and when combined with valerian or certain other oils. An article published in 2012 in Evidence – Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine reported that inhaling a mixture of essential oils that contained more lavender than any other oil maintained an already healthy blood pressure and their production of cortisol, a hormone produced in response to stress. Both effects relax an individual, making it easier to fall and stay asleep.

Research finds that appetite and the sense of smell are closely connected. In fact, studies have discovered that our sense of smell actually triggers feelings of fullness before our stomach does.
