When cleaning your shower you probably notice that it is easy to breathe in the fumes of anything that you are spraying. The fumes go right to your lungs into your respiratory system. If the cleaning products are highly toxic (like bleach), this can cause problems later on in life after consistent exposure. This doesn’t mean you should avoid cleaning your house, it only means that it is important to consider using non toxic cleaning products. A more cost effective solution would be to make your own cleaning products. Not only do you know what is inside the bottle but you will save money making it! Shower scum and mold is a pain to deal with so I have made a daily shower spray that will keep your shower smelling good but also prevent shower scum and mold from developing between cleanings. it is important to do a deep cleaning in your shower before you start using your daily shower spray because it will not remove soap scum that is already there. An easy way to remove soap scum would be to heat up 1 cup of vinegar and add to 1 cup of dish soap and spray all over your shower. (don’t use this if you have a natural stone shower because the vinegar could cause damage). Let it sit for 10-15 minutes and then scrub. Your shower will now be ready to continue with your daily shower spray!
This daily shower spray is safe for all types of showers because there is no vinegar in the recipe.
Ingredients:
32 oz spray bottle – it is best to use the hydrogen peroxide bottle to mix your spray in because it is dark and will not degrade the hydrogen peroxide. You can get a spray top to put on the top of the bottle.
1 cup of water
1/2 cup each of hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol
1 tbsp Onguard Cleaning Concentrate (15% off during the month of June)
10 drops Onguard
5 drops lemon
5 drops melaleuca
Shake before use and spray your shower after use.
