My son woke up with a cough a couple days ago with some congestion. Perfect timing after my immune week because now I can tell you about the protocol I use for my kids when they get sick.
Step 1: I put some oils in a bowl, added hot water and had him inhale the oils for a few minutes. This will make you cough a little as you inhale the vapors but as the oils start working the coughing will decrease. I used 1 drop each of Eucalyptus, melaleuca and lime these oils help to soothe the respiratory system and help to break down mucus. I added the oils to the bowl first and then add the hot water. The vapors will dissipate quickly so make sure they are inhaled quickly. I also tell my kids to keep their eyes closed because the oils will get in their eyes and sometimes I will put a towel over their head.
Step 2: set up a diffuser next to him with respiratory oils / oils that break down mucus. I used the same oils that I used in the steam bowl (in step 1) 3 drops of each, plus 1 drop of oregano to help kill off pathogens.
Step 3: Warm tea with a drop of Onguard (for kids 5+) for immune support. I use any tea that I have on hand, add a couple drops of liquid stevia and then 1 drop of onguard.
Step 4: Sit still and relax 😅I will have my kids sit and watch TV, play on their ipad and just relax while they are sitting next to the diffuser and inhaling the oils.
Step 5: you can consider the respiratory protocol from the symphony of the cells book. I will do this 1-2 times a day when my kids start coughing. If you are interested in supporting the respiratory system further, I would recommend doing the respiratory protocol from the symphony of the cells book at least 1 time each day. Sometimes I will do this twice a day (using half the oils recommended).
The number one rule to remember is to start early. As soon as you notice any signs of coughing / congestion, you need to start the oils. Essential oils work with the body to heal and restore so you only need small amounts, but use them frequently. This is very different from when you use over the counter meds to mask your symptoms. The oils are metabolized by the body within 30-40 minutes so you can continue using oils again soon after to continue supporting your body. For kids (5+) you can use up to 12 drops of oil internally in a 24 hour period and 12 drops of oil topically over a 24 hour period. So you can space out the oils you are using by following this chart.
