What are Essential Oils with Monoterpenes and how can they benefit your health?

July 17, 2016 By April Unruh Leave a Comment

monoterpene EOP

We have all heard the term essential oils. But what are they made of? Most of you will glaze over if I start bringing up chemistry terms but I want to give you some basic information about the different classifications of essential oils and why each one has different therapeutic benefits from another one. Essential oil constituents are built on a framework of isoprene units. Isoprene units consist of carbon and hydrogen atoms. Most of the compounds in essential oils consist of two to four isoprene units. The simplest and most common class of terpenes found in essential oils is the monoterpene.

What you Might Not Know About Using Essential Oils Aromatically

July 15, 2016 By April Unruh Leave a Comment

Whatyoudontknowaboutdiffusing

If you want a safe, effective, and holistic way to improve mood, purify the air and improve your brain function, you need to start diffusing essential oils. Diffusing essential oils is the most cost effective and health conscious solution for your health. Diffusing doesn’t just make your house smell great, you reap the health benefits every time you breathe in the oils!

Because diffusion distributes essential oil molecules into the air so effectively, it is an excellent way to maximize the beneficial properties of essential oils. When essential oils are inhaled through the nose, tiny nerves send an immediate signal to the brain and go straight to work on the systems that moderate our minds and bodies. Inhalation can be the most direct delivery method of these incredibly nurturing components in essential oils, since the chemical messengers in the nasal cavity have direct access to the brain.

Why You Need to Diffuse Essential Oils Every Day

Purify Air

When diffused into the air, essential oils can help with:

  • Destroying mold microorganism in the air.
  • Filling the air with a fresh, aromatic scent
  • Making chemicals non-toxic by fracturing their molecular structure
  • Increasing atmospheric oxygen
  • Increasing ozone and negative ions in the area, which helps inhibit bacterial growth

Purifying the air essential oils:

Melaleuca

Lemon

Lime

Eucalyptus

Oregano

Pine

Sage

Thyme

Peppermint

Wild Orange

Ginger

Lavender

Lemongrass

Support Your Immune System

Diffusing essential oils is also a great way to support the immune system. Essential oils such as Eucalyptus and cinnamon will help boost immunity.

In a French study, 210 different microbes were colonized, and in 30 minutes of diffusing the air with essential oils, only four colonies were left! You can diffuse essential oils in the air by using a few drops – 10 to 15 – in a regular diffuser with some water.

Immune System Blend:

Onguard: 1 drop

Melaleuca: 1 drop

Lemon: 1 drop

Frankincense: 1 drop

Oregano: 1 drop

Reduce Stress and Relax

Essentials oils have been found to penetrate cell membranes and cross the brain – blood barrier in seconds reaching the emotional center of the brain. And, the hypothalamus is responsible for sending our chemical messenger that effect everything! Including our energy, mood or state of stress! So, inhaling essential oils, is a perfect way to combat stressful thoughts.

Anti – Stress Blends

Blend 1:

Lavender: 3 drops

Clary sage: 2 drops

Ylang Ylang: 1 drop

Marjoram: 1 drop

Blend 2:

 Lavender: 5 drops

Ylang Ylang: 3 drops

Bergamot: 2 drops

Deeper Sleep

A systematic review of research into inhaled essential oils effect on sleep, published in 2014 in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, reported the greatest number of findings for lavender. This plant’s essential oil was found to enhance the quality of sleep by itself and when combined with valerian or certain other oils. An article published in 2012 in Evidence – Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine reported that inhaling a mixture of essential oils that contained more lavender than any other oil maintained an already healthy blood pressure and their production of cortisol, a hormone produced in response to stress. Both effects relax an individual, making it easier to fall and stay asleep.

Bedtime Blends:

Blend 1:

Vetiver: 3 drops

Serenity: 3 drops

Blend 2:

Lavender: 3 drops

Wild Orange: 3 drops

Reduce Congestion

Essential oils are great for reducing inflammation and congestion in clogged airways to help you breathe more easily. If you are prone to seasonal threats or other respiratory concerns, try diffusing essential oils in the room (or rooms) of your home where you spend the most time recommended oils:

Peppermint

Rosemary

Lemon

Eucalyptus

Reduce Food Cravings

Research finds that appetite and the sense of smell are closely connected. In fact, studies have discovered that our sense of smell actually triggers feelings of fullness before our stomach does.

When you inhale an essential oil, its microscopic molecules directly affect a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. An area inside the hypothalamus called the “Satiety Center” controls feelings of hunger/fullness.

Essential oils for reducing cravings

Grapefruit

Bergamot

Cinnamon

Peppermint

Direct Inhalation

If you don’t own a diffuser, you can simply inhale essential oils straight out of the bottle. Simply open a bottle of essential oil and inhale or put a few drops of oils on the palm of your hand, rub your hands together and then cup your hands together, and then cup your hands over your nose and mouth and inhale.

Many people will jump for over the counter meds when their child starts to feel warm because we don’t know what to do for our children. Elevated body temp is a symptom rather than an illness. In babies, it could be because a tooth is coming through. Or could be a result of unwanted pathogens.
