Diffusing peppermint essential oil can help with immediate effects of seasonal discomfort such as sinus concerns and relief of scratchy throats.
A 2010 study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology investigated the effects of peppermint oil in the tracheal rings of rats. The results suggest that peppermint oil is a relaxant and exhibits antispasmodic activity, inhibiting contractions that causes you to cough.
How to use peppermint essential oils for seasonal discomfort:
Diffuse 5 drops of peppermint essential oil at home to unclog sinuses, treat a scratchy throat and help clear out unwanted pathogens.
Add 1-2 drops of food grade peppermint essential oil to 4-8oz of water daily.
Peppermint oil can also be applied topically to the chest, back of neck and temples. You can dilute peppermint with coconut oil if you have skin sensitivities.
Try my Homemade Vapor Rub to open up the airways and make it easier to breathe.
Seasonal Discomfort Blend — Combine 2–3 drops of peppermint, eucalyptus and lavender oil with one teaspoon of coconut oil and massage the mixture into the temples, behind the ears and into the bottoms of the feet.
